I have some questions about becoming a teacher. (A teachers point of view would be nice)?
I would really love anyones perspective but a teachers point of view would be great.
I am a sophomore in college and I am currently a liberal studies major with the desire to be an elementary school teacher. and a psychology minor. I have a passion for helping people and I love to be around children especially preschool and kindergarten age. I just have a few questions before I make serious decisions about my career.
1. Teachers do you love your job? What are some frustrating and rewarding parts of your job?
2. Should I minor in psych or special education, or something else?
3. What did you major in?
4. How much do you get paid, is it enough to make a good living?
5. Is there anything else that might help me seal the deal?

I have taught adults and children of all ages, down to 5.
I love it. I onlyhate it when I have a class that I cannot motivate and where discipline seems to take up more of my time than actual teaching. However this usually happenes in classes where the students have psychological/social problems and need more personal help more urgently than to learn a specific skill, so I try to remember that.
By special education, do you mean teaching children with special needs? That is very rewarding but not for everyone, it takes the right character to do it well. I suggest you get volunteer experience.
Your best bet is to try to do some private tutoring and also try to get a job as a part time teaching assistant. That will help you greatly in getting a job later on and will also be the only way you can really make your mind up about what you want. I cannot stress enough that what one teacher loves, another hates. eg. I’ve done a lot of teaching hyperactive students and I love it, I really feel I can help them, whereas other teachers cannot stand it.
The pay is never great unless you work in a private school. As you work you way up you can increase your salary by taking on exrta responsibilities like being head of department, running school clubs etc. Eventually you will get a decent salary. You will never be extremely rich but you will get lots of holidays.
