Writer has the answer to the Bills’ failures How does a team like the Bills
fall so far in a league built to be so fair that small market teams
consistently win? The NFL, with its draft, revenue sharing and salary cap
allow small market teams like Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis to
dominate. How could a team like Buffalo not even make the playoffs for over 11
seasons? Those successful small market teams are built from the top down by
owners who want to win. Most importantly they find good GMs who hire good
coaches who hire good scouts who draft good players. They don’t miss in the
draft on players whom they could have chosen like Clay Matthews, Drew Brees
and Rob Gronkowski and instead pick players like Aaron Maybin, J.P. Losman and
Leodis McKelvin. They don’t have owners who constantly are at odds with
strong-willed execs who either quit or are fired like Lou Saban, Chuck Knox,
Bill Polian and John Butler, and are replaced with cheaper types like Dick
Jauron and Buddy Nix, when proven GMs like Charley Casserly are available. The
