Critics at the counter of the Arts has published this week in the Opera tests, ranging from the sublime to the downright nasty.
Alexandra Coghlan was impressed by the production of Garsington Opera Vivaldi's 'La Verita Cimento'. Although he found his argument rather silly and unconvincing setting, variety of music was abundant. The production boasted strong female singers, arias held pending, which eclipsed his men.
Igor Lalic-Toronyi was enraged by the latest musical drama by John Malkovich, 'The Infernal Comedy ". Set real-life Austrian serial murderer Jack Unterweger, Malkovich gives much charm to her character, so the piece is presents itself as a defender of a psychopath. Although opinion-Lalic Toronyi firm was formed, he praised Haselböck Akademi conductors and Martin Wiener.
Stephen Walsh Group is the Opera "Seven Angels" a little too decent for his taste. Glyn Maxwell Walsh script that is confused. Music Luke Bedford proved effective background music, however, was not enough to save the production – which was excellent performances from the singers to complete this task.
